Hi, I’m Emma the founder and maker behind Posie Cards & Gifts.
My love of floristry started with a floristry course, which led me to work with several different florists while continuing with my other career. Although floristry was something I enjoyed, it was when I discovered dried flowers that I really found the creative side of it that I loved.
I began experimenting with dried flowers and had the opportunity to create flowers for weddings and run workshops. I enjoyed those experiences, but I kept finding myself drawn back to designing and making smaller pieces and gifts. I loved having the freedom to experiment, play with colour and texture, and turn an idea into something completely unique.
That is really where Posie began.
I love dried flowers because, unlike fresh flowers, they can be enjoyed for much longer. They can turn a simple bunch of flowers into something that can be kept and enjoyed as a reminder of a person, occasion or moment for years to come.
The name Posie came from the little bunches of flowers themselves - a posie is a small bunch of flowers, which felt like the perfect name for a business centred around creating little pieces of happiness with flowers.
My designs are inspired by the natural beauty around me in Devon. I love the colours and textures found in nature, from the coastline to the countryside, but I also love bringing in vibrant colours and unexpected combinations. I don’t always start with a completely finished idea either - I enjoy experimenting as I work, moving flowers around, trying different combinations and seeing where a design takes me.
Every piece is handmade by me and made to order. I love creating each design and seeing how the individual flowers, colours and textures come together to make the finished piece.
Although I am the one behind the flowers, Posie is very much a family effort. My daughter helps me with the business behind the scenes, from managing the website and social media to photography, videography, maths and packaging when things get busy. She has a very different approach to me - she likes to plan everything, while I’m much more likely to experiment and change things as I go - but somehow it works!
My aim is for Posie to grow into my full-time creative business, while continuing to make the things I enjoy most: beautiful, creative pieces that can be given as gifts, kept as memories and enjoyed for years to come.
Whether you have spotted something you love in the shop or have an idea of your own, I’m always happy to chat. I love creating something that feels personal and completely right for the person it is intended for.
